Jiří Pelcl

In the 1980s Jiří Pelcl, as a member of the Atika art group, a long-time rector of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), created the form of Czech postmodernism. Armchairs and bookshelves were artefacts with a rich life. However, he left the artist's level of design a long time ago and was the only member of the group to become a renowned industrial designer professing functionality and mass production. When we asked him in 2007 to propose a vase for the Křehký collection, there was some provocation. An object essentially decorative and anesthetised, such as a vase, was the opposite of everything he was designing at the time. Jiří Pelcl: “I remembered the plain of cacti I saw in Peru, and I found the natural form I was looking for.” The results were product 001 of the Křehký collection, the foundation stone.
